Week 11 EOC: What I learned at the Well

Coming into this class, I expected to learn about marketing and that is basically it. I felt like it would take it to the next level from our basic marketing class last quarter, and we would learn more about the entertainment side. I did not know we would learn it the way we did. That is the one thing I hadn't prepared myself for. I believe there would be a lot of lectures and a project or two to go along with the final project, but instead we watched a lot of movies and didn't have any projects. While I do think we may have watched too many movies, I do see what they did for me. I remember one movie that showed me how important it is to make connections, and I need to do everything I can to make them. Two more showed me different things a manager did, but how they would do everything they possibly could to achieve their goal; be as personally successful as possible. The class taught me in ways I did not think I could learn in, and now I have a more open mind about what I'm actually going to need to do in order to be more successful then anybody thinks I will be. I learned what I wanted to learn in this class, but I did believe you spoke to much over some of the movies. If anything, I would just want to know more about the role of a manager. It is what I'm in this school for, and I wish we would have talked more about exactly what managers are, what they do, how much work they have to do to be successful, etc. Overall, I feel like I got almost everything I wanted out of this class.

Week 10 EOC: The Role of a Promoter

"When an individual has an idea for a new business venture, he or she may set about interesting others in the venture and persuade them to contribute capital to a company to be incorporate for the purpose of carrying on the venture. The individual will then be described as ‘promoter’ of the company." https://www.lawteacher.net/free-law-essays/business-law/role-of-promoters-in-company-establishment-business-law-essay.php A promoter is meant to promote something or someone, to get their name out here and make it known. The promoter is supposed to help make a product successful, no matter what the product is. They get the name known, and they shop the product around places where people need or will like the product. "In the 19th century, when industrial revolution came and companies flourished, the concept of promoter gained substantial importance like no other occupation, as there were no restrictions on advertising immediately to the public, inviting them to take shares in new companies, some promoters took advantage of their position and of public sympathy and hence defrauded the public on large extent." https://www.lawteacher.net/free-law-essays/business-law/role-of-promoters-in-company-establishment-business-law-essay.php. The promoter is extremely important in the success of whatever they are meant to promote. They carry out the necessary investigation to find out whether the formation of a company is possible and profitable. Thereafter, they organize the resources to convert the idea into a reality by forming a company. In this sense, the promoters are the originators of the plan for the formation of a company. https://www.lawteacher.net/free-law-essays/business-law/role-of-promoters-in-company-establishment-business-law-essay.php

Week 10 EOC: It's an Art

If I was in Peter's situation, I would take just enough money to improve my life, and invest the rest of it. I wouldn't invest until I research what I want to invest in, so I know it is a good investment. I would then try to improve the quality of my life with the small amount from the rest. I might use it on a downpayment for a cheap car, or maybe just a small amount of clothes and save it for emergency money. Just what I need to survive while the rest of he money is invested and I'm working my job. I wouldn't change to much about my life, just enough to keep myself happy with the money that i took out. If I was to get a cheap car, it would not be so cheap that it breaks down a lot, but it would not be a high end car. Just good enough to get me from place to place. Also I would buy clothes, because I do not have a lot as it is right now. Maybe four or five pairs of pants/shorts and 4 shirts. The rest would probably go towards food, as my family is big and they need a lot of it. I would remove probably 1/5 of the money for myself, and the other 4/5 would be invested after the proper research.

Week 9 EOC: I'm a little worried about my future

I feel like my future is going to go well for me. I don't have an exact career that I want yet, but I do know what field I want to be involved in. It's not black and white, and there will be many obstacles, but I know I'm motivated enough to make myself keep going. Right now I'm in school, starting up my own life, and preparing myself for the future. I live with my family, and the person I associate with the most is my new puppy, Luna. I'm saving up money, buying a car, and learning to be completely independent so by the time I graduate from Ai I'll be that much more prepared to handle myself and my career. I want to give myself the best chance I can to be successful. Since I love what I'm in school for, and I have a really big drive to be successful, I don't have a doubt I will be successful with my future endeavors. Everything I'm doing with my life right now is to prepare for this. I have a strong drive to be successful, and I want it to much to settle for anything less. My goal is to be happy with my life. I want a career that I love, to be able to support my own loving family, to have supportive friends, and to maintain my happiness for most of my life. So everything I'm doing with my life right now, and everyone that I know right now, is to prepare myself and ensure that I get the future I want.

Week 8 EOC: Deeper Meaning

To many games will overload the customer, or the people watching the college football bowl games. Making the games more rare will draw in a bigger crowd, as they won't have as many opportunities to see the games. Also, only having either the major teams, or teams with a major player playing will draw more attention than the basic teams that not many people are interested in. The scheduled date and time are important as you need to place the game at a time where many college football fans will be able to see it, and the channel should be available for everyone to watch it. You may even draw in new fans if u place it after the right show. The date is important because it needs to be on a day where people are excited and able to watch the game. Placing it on a week where there's Final Exams in college would be bad, as a majority of college sports fans support the college that they are attending. Placing it on a holiday could be good or bad depending on the holiday. If there are major sports games that day, such as the NBA or NFL, then that would be a bad day. Also, if most people are out celebrating something, then that is also a bad day. The games will get the most attention on a day and time where everyone can and will want to watch them. Networks should be aware of what is on other shows and what is scheduled around the game so they know where the attention is. If The Walking Dead is on another channel with a new episode at the time of the bowl, there is a chance the amount of people watching the bowl would be cut in half. If that show is right before the bowl, however, many of those people who don't change the channel would end up watching the bowl along with the people who were going to watch it anyways.

Week 8 EOC: Advertising in the Oscars

One issue at the Academy Awards was when they announced the wrong winner at the end of the show. Moonlight was supposed to win Best Picture, but La La Land was accidentally announced in its place. “As the "La La Land" cast was taking the stage to celebrate, a stagehand in the wings said, "Oh ... Oh my god, he got the wrong envelope." They walked back and forth repeating it. Stagehands, actors, production crew and journalists were stunned. Oscars producer Michael De Luca was peering into his monitor, trying to figure it out”. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/la-oscars-2017-89th-academy-awards-pricewaterhouse-coopers-issues-1488184837-htmlstory.html. Another issue at the Oscars was the spotlight that announcement put on the PwC, or the people who organize the Academy Awards. “Mr. Ryan watched in horror as the bizarre scene played out before Hollywood’s biggest stars and tens of millions of people watching around the globe. In a dizzying turn of events, his firm, which normally occupies a back seat at the glamorous event, was suddenly at the center of one of the most sensational stories in Oscars history. “I knew something was up,” he said in a telephone interview” https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/27/business/media/pwc-oscars-best-picture.html?_r=0. A third issue at the Academy Awards was the types of jokes Jimmy Kimmel decided to use throughout the night. Many of them were inappropriate not only for that setting, but for any setting. “There was the bit where he tweeted at Donald Trump, and some ha-ha moments when he made snacks rain down on the audience. But overall, many of the late night personality's jokes landed with a thud — especially because more than a few of them were at the expense of people of color.  http://www.refinery29.com/2017/02/142737/jimmy-kimmel-oscars-host-review-racism

Week 7 EOC: Zuckerburg

Supportive communities are communities and intimate social structures we turn to for our personal, emotional and spiritual needs. Safe communities are communities that we as individuals all turn towards to make us feel more safe. Informed communities are communities that bring people together to do things we couldn't do on our own. To do this, we need ways to share new ideas and share enough common understanding to actually work together. An inclusive community is a community requires establishing a new process for citizens worldwide to participate in community governance. A civically-engaged community is a community where everybody is actively involved, and everyone wants to make the world a better place. I could use this to advance my career in a number of ways. Joining groups, or at least knowing someone in a few groups, gives me more connections that I didn't previously have. I have new people to talk to who can help me further my plans for my career. Depending on the group I join or meet people in, I can advance my career much faster than I had previously anticipated. My major and my career are all about the connections I make and the people I meet, and so the more connections that I can make and the more people that I meet the better off I'll be. I can use these groups in several different ways to further my career. Whether I meet people online in social groups or in person in a social setting, a beneficial connection will always be helpful.

Week 7 EOC: Three Profile Statements

A creative person who's always willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. I'm very passionate about what I do, and always striving to be better at everything I attempt in life. I'm a very motivated person who gets the job done, and helps other people get their job done.

I like finding new ways to solve problems, and I do whatever it takes to get the job done. I'm very passionate about what I do, and always striving to be better at everything I attempt in life. I'm a very motivated person who gets the job done, and helps other people get their job done.

A creative person who brings a different mindset than most people have. I'm very passionate about what I do, and always striving to be better at everything I attempt in life. I'm always motivated, and I'll find any way I need to get the job done, along with helping out anybody who needs it.

Week 6 EOC: Travel & Tourism Team Decision Making

Fall is a better time than winter to travel because not only is it not as cold, but the fall colors are more appealing to the eye. "Fall foliage turns bright red and yellow in Branson during the months of September and October. The climate is nearly perfect during these two months with cool mornings and mild afternoons. The president of Branson Entertainment Incorporated believes that the beautiful foliage each year is an additional attraction for Branson tourists." (pg. 147). Branson is a popular tourist destination for senior citizens, and offering senior citizen discounts would give even more seniors a reason to travel to Branson. "The city, located in central Missouri, attracts guests from all over the country. Many senior citizen groups from surrounding states take charter bus tours to see their favorite country music performers and enjoy gambling provided by local casinos. Outlet malls located near Branson are an additional attraction for tourists. Most tourists stay an average of two nights in the local hotels." (Pg.47). Branson could offer family plans like free bowling, family food discounts, and things like that that appeal to everybody. Some senior citizens really enjoy spending time with their families, and having deals for them would likely increase the number of tourism. "A cohort consists of a group of people who share certain characteristics. The characteristics of the people in a cohort may include income or spending levels, age, ethnicity, geographic location, credit rating, or any combination of these." (Pg. 147).

Week 6 EOC: Women's Sports

"Today, despite these advances, there is still a gender discrimination that still limits sporting opportunities for women at the intercollegiate level. Despite Title IX’s success in opening doors to women and girls, the playing field is far from level for them. For example, although women in division I colleges are 53 percent of the student body, they receive only 41 percent of the opportunities to play sports, 36 percent of overall athletic operating budgets, and 32 percent of the dollars spent to recruit new athletes." (http://www.athleticscholarships.net/title-ix-college-athletics-3.htm). Title 9 has made an impact towards giving women more equality on the college level, but there is still more we need to do until college sports, and the country in general, is truly equal. "The Huskies’ 100-game winning streak eclipses any team in both women’s and men’s professional sports, placing them among the greatest in history -- including the New York Giants, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New England Patriots (http://www.cbsnews.com/news/uconn-womens-basketball-huskies-geno-auriemma/). A women's team made history that no other sports team, professional or in college, has been able to achieve. It helps make major strides towards equality. "The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was a proposed modification to the US constitution granting equal rights to women. After its passage through the Houses in 1972, it was sent to the State for ratification." (https://www.enotes.com/homework-help/what-significance-equal-rights-amendment-1972-334689).

Week 5 EOC: Plan the Superbowl Halftime Show

I would have 2 artists perform for the Superbowl Halftime Performance, one person who would send a message and one person who has such exciting music that they would get the crowd into the Superbowl even more. The artist who would send a message would probably be Beyonce, because of her stature in not only African-American culture, but American culture, or Kanye West because of how passionate he is about what he does, and how over the top he is when there's a point he needs to get across. The other performer would be Drake, because he is just as easily recognizable, him and, Kanye West, and Beyonce are all friends with eachother, and everybody would get into his music. He's one of the biggest music artists out right now, if not the biggest music artist out right now. All three of those names are basically huge brands. "Target markets often associate brands with successful athletes and celebrities" (Ch.5 Pg.153). "During the brand recognition stage, consumers know of the brand, but the brand has little influence on their purchases. Consumers view brands as valuable during the preference stage" (Ch. 5 Pg. 154). There will also be beverages and food for everyone to enjoy. "Soft drinks are a perfect example of a product line. There are several choices to meet the needs of different consumer tastes and diets" (Ch.5 Pg.152).

Week 4 EOC: Stallions not Unicorns

With my degree, I plan on being involved with something either in music or sports. Those are the two things I am most passionate about, and the two things that I enjoy the most. Along with that, the job I get must provide mw with enough money to support me and my family, along with spare money or take my family on special trips every now and then. I would also enjoy traveling the world, so a job that lets me travel would be enjoyable. "One of the best strategies for growing a sports or entertainment business is to consider international marketing—marketing a product in another country. Making the product or service desirable to international consumers takes knowledge of the cultural and language differences. It’s also important to understand pricing based on the country’s local currency." (Ch.4 pg.102). Sports is one of my biggest passions along with music, so an opportunity to be involved with professional sports would be like a dream. "International sporting events help bring people around the world closer together. They give athletes a chance to compete on the same playing field and under the same rules agreed upon by all of the teams and players involved." (Ch.4 pg.94). I also want to be abke to be myself and spread my culture and beliefs with that I do. While following company policy, I want to be abke to freely express myself. "Culture is defined as the shared history, beliefs, customs, and traditions of a group of people that distinguish them from another group. Specific sports, music, dancing, entertainment, and celebrations can be considered part of the culture of a group of people. As travel and worldwide communication have become more accessible, people have had opportunities to see and hear the wealth of talent from around the globe." (Ch.4 Pg.107).

Week 3 EOC: Sporting Events Safety

"Security is the second level of the hierarchy—individuals want both physical safety and economic security. " (Ch.2 Pg.40) Safety is an important part of all sporting and entertainment events. Without the feeling of safety, a lot of customers will not show up. One way to make sporting events safer is to add more security. More security ensures there's more people making sure nothing goes wrong, and more eyes to watch out for any potential problems. There should also be more training for employees on safety. The more trained in safety the employees are, the safer the event may be to attend. If they are more trained, then not only will they be safer, but they'll also be better adept at spotting any potential danger. "Employees who are not properly trained to perform their jobs, or who have a negative attitude about work, can create financial and safety risks. If food service employees at a game do not follow safety standards for washing their hands, many risks are involved. Fans may become ill, the reputation of the stadium and the team may suffer, and the business may have to pay for medical services for fans." (Ch.3 Pg.76) Finally, there should be several plans in place in case anything goes wrong. There should be a safety plan for every scenario, so if anything goes wrong, the customers who attended the event will still be able to either safely stay or safely leave, whichever is necessary. "Initial planning for an event starts with the hiring of an experienced, trained safety coordinator and an event safety team. To ensure they have resources available to handle a large event, the safety team should contact public service agencies, such as emergency management, law enforcement, fire and rescue, utility companies, and medical facilities." (Ch.3 Pg.78) The more plans, the more security and the more trained everyone is, the safer the events are bound to be.

Week 3 EOC: Academy Awards

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/24/movies/oscar-nominations-2017.html?_r=0 “But the academy also moved past two #OscarsSoWhite years by honoring six black actors — a record — and including diverse films like ‘Moonlight,’ ‘Fences’ and ‘Hidden Figures’ in the best picture race.”
http://www.latimes.com/projects/la-et-oscars-nominations-2017/ “In sharp contrast to the last two Oscar seasons, this year non-white nominees made the list in every major acting and directing category. The uptick in diversity comes two years after the #OscarsSoWhite movement began and a year after the Academy pledged to double women and non-white members”
http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/news/5-things-we-learned-from-oscars-2017-nominations-w462652 “Frankly, it was an embarrassment that last year's slate of major acting nominees had not a single black face among them, especially in a time so rich with talent of all colors. The Academy had no intention of repeating that faux pas this year, however.” This year the Academy Awards managed to move past years of being predominately white and having people of color get multiple nominations. In a time like this, with the president that was just elected and the amount of backlash the Academy Awards have come under in recent years, it was only right that they began to fix things. The consensus in the Academy is that this is just the beginning of the process to become more diverse and relate to everyone in america, instead of being mostly made of Caucasians. While this is better then previous years, and the Academy has certainly made steps towards improving and diversifying, there is always room for improvement.

Week 1 EOC: Voice

All my life, marketing, advertising, and promoting things has always been my biggest interest. I've ventured out and tried different things, but I always end up marketing whatever I like in some way, and the marketing aspect is usually the best part for me. I am still open to different options, but I would prefer to promote things more on the entertainment industry side of things. That field has always interested me much more then just being a manager of some fast food restaurant, retail store, or grocery store. I prefer to chase the bigger opportunities with bigger rewards, and I will rarely settle for what's being given to me. My goal is to always get better and to continuously become more successful then I was the day before, whether that is in the entertainment industry or in another large market. Marketing has always peaked my interest and I've always wanted to be good at this subject, it is a major component to being a good businessman and managing a successful business. I'm always chasing better things, and when there's an opportunity to further my education and my skills, I'm going to go after that opportunity. I have a strong motivation to be successful.

Week 2 EOC: Deeper Meaning of Swingers

Swingers is more a story of people's career, not just a story about one man's friends helping him get over his ex while chasing their dream. While it looks like they're all just trying to pick up girls and party, which they also try to do, they are primarily making connections that will help further their careers. The main character spends most of the time trying to get over his ex, but him being stuck on his ex–girlfriend hinders his ability to make connections while all of his friends are out making these connections to further their careers. The movie appears to be about a guy getting over his ex, partying, getting girls, and just a really bad love story. The truth is a good insight into how I should be moving forward with my career. Everything I do should be based around getting more connections to further my career, always meeting new people and gaining connections who could benefit me either immediately or in the future. Almost nothing they did in the movie didn't further their careers in some type of way. Those were mostly undertones that you wouldn't notice unless you were paying attention, and some people probably thought it was just a movie about a guy getting over his ex by partying in Los Angeles and trying to get rich. The people who were really paying attention, however, knew it was a story about motivation, finding any way to move forward with your career, and doing everything with the people you love getting rich with you.
