Week 6 EOC: Women's Sports

"Today, despite these advances, there is still a gender discrimination that still limits sporting opportunities for women at the intercollegiate level. Despite Title IX’s success in opening doors to women and girls, the playing field is far from level for them. For example, although women in division I colleges are 53 percent of the student body, they receive only 41 percent of the opportunities to play sports, 36 percent of overall athletic operating budgets, and 32 percent of the dollars spent to recruit new athletes." (http://www.athleticscholarships.net/title-ix-college-athletics-3.htm). Title 9 has made an impact towards giving women more equality on the college level, but there is still more we need to do until college sports, and the country in general, is truly equal. "The Huskies’ 100-game winning streak eclipses any team in both women’s and men’s professional sports, placing them among the greatest in history -- including the New York Giants, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New England Patriots (http://www.cbsnews.com/news/uconn-womens-basketball-huskies-geno-auriemma/). A women's team made history that no other sports team, professional or in college, has been able to achieve. It helps make major strides towards equality. "The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was a proposed modification to the US constitution granting equal rights to women. After its passage through the Houses in 1972, it was sent to the State for ratification." (https://www.enotes.com/homework-help/what-significance-equal-rights-amendment-1972-334689).
